Step 3 - Execute & Adjust

Sirius Solution utilizes an array of the best in web analytics, the more information about what is happening with your internet business the better, especially when trying to determine if an action caused an increase in activity, or the opposite. For example, we just discussed writing and distributing a professional press release, you will quickly want to know what effect it had and why.

We bring together the following for a complete picture:

Google Analytics

Google Analytics is the enterprise-class web analytics solution that gives a rich insights into  website traffic and marketing effectiveness. Powerful, flexible and easy-to-use features now lets one see and analyze your traffic data in an entirely new way. With Google Analytics, one is more prepared to write better-targeted ads, strengthen marketing initiatives and create higher converting websites.

Sirius Solution can help you configure everything you will need to begin tracking your statistics, we can also help you set up custom goals, alerts, and reports to allow you to determine specific patterns.

Most importantly, we can show you what to look for inside this data in checking for successful patterns or trends.

Sign Up for a Google Analytics Account

Once signed up, you will want to:

  1. Log into analytics
  2. Go to your main analytics dashboard
  3. Click on "View Report" next to the site you wish to view

There are many options available for drilling down into the specifics of data being tracked on your website, however you should begin by looking at a few areas which will give you the most valuable information.

Visitors Dashboard - In this area you will not want to focus on "Visits", but rather "Absolute Unique Visitors". This is the number that is important, and reflects your actual traffic to your website. To give a quick example, if one person visited your site one million times, it would indicate one million visits, and one unique visitor.

You will want to look at "Time on Site", this will give you a good indication of how your content is being taken, in addition to your home page which is indicated as "Bounce Rate". Bounce Rate is the amount of people visiting your site and leaving within 5 seconds or so, which is actually very common among web-surfers. "New Visits" indicates of course how many of the Visits were new.

Traffic Sources Dashboard - This is a very important area to pay attention to, it tells you exactly where your traffic is coming from, broken doen into the following 3 main categories, and shown by their percentage of the traffic:

  • Direct - By going directly to your site
  • Search Engine - By finding you on a Search Engine
  • Referral - By finding you on another site containing your link

Direct Traffic is wanted of course, but by far the most important trends here are from the Search Engine and Referrals. You will want to watch traffic and keywords coming from a Search Engine after performing some Search Engine Optimization, and you will want to watch Referrals after publishing links on Forums, Social Media, and similar sites.

StatPress

StatPress is a plug-in for WordPress which allows for a basic level of web analytics and statistics to be collected and displayed for a Blog. Much of the information does overlap with Google Analytics, however it is a good idea to also have it going if you have a Blog that uses WordPress.

Conclusion

All of this information should come together to give you a complete picture as to what is going on with your traffic. Utilizing this data being collected for your website is very vital to the success of your online business. They give you the knowledge needed to make any changes needed to make the most efficient use of your time. For example, if you are posting links to your site on five different Social Media sites, and one of them gives you two hundred  visitors, and one of them gives you two, you will want to focus much more on the networking site providing positive results and focus less on the one that does not.

Learn to use Web Analytics to your advantage early in the game, without it you are truly flying blind.
